Our Story
Established in 1978 by David Lucas, the former VP of Grower Relations for Robert Mondavi Winery, The Lucas Winery was founded on the belief that Lodi’s unique terroir could produce world-class wines. David, alongside his wife, Heather Pyle-Lucas (an accomplished winemaker with experience making the premier labels at Robert Mondavi) has dedicated over four decades to crafting wines that reflect the character and potential of the Lodi appellation.
Vineyards & Sustainability
Our flagship ZinStar Vineyard, planted in 1933, is a 3.5-acre, head-trained, own-rooted Zinfandel vineyard that is CCOF-certified organic (for 15 Years!). We also cultivate the Nova and Olive Tree vineyards, both farmed sustainably under the LODI RULES certification. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the vineyard; our winery is powered entirely by solar energy.
Winemaking Philosophy
At The Lucas Winery, we believe that great wines are made in the vineyard. Our wines are handcrafted using traditional methods, including aging in select French oak barrels in our Grand Chai – a unique barrel room designed to maintain optimal aging conditions. We focus on producing unblended, pure varietal wines that showcase the distinctiveness of our vineyards.
Visiting Us
Guests are invited to experience our historic barn tasting room, refurbished in 2000, where personalized tastings include guided tours of our vineyards and barrel room. We are dog friendly, family friendly, and offer picnic areas for visitors to enjoy. Reservations are recommended, especially for weekend visits.
